makes a lot of sense ...

He who has got rid of delusion has his misery destroyed, he who has got rid of craving has his
delusion destroyed. He who has got rid of greed has his craving destroyed, he who owns nothing has
his greed destroyed. (110)

This is very appealing. What this verse is saying is that by owning nothing you can get rid of all other defilements by chopping
at the root. However, I have had numerous encounters with homeless people and they may not have anything but certainly some
of them are greedy, mean, deceitful, and whatever bad qualties a person may have.

However, if one has the right attitude, then clearly eliminating material possessions can be beneficial.
